In 1973 a group of the Institute’s American friends were so impressed by the significance of
the scientific work being carried out at the Institute that they felt the need to foster, develop
and support the medical knowledge being brought to light at the Milan center and to disseminate it
abroad. Consequently, the Mario Negri Institute Foundation was established. It is authorized to
receive donations and contributions from American citizens, corporations and charities and to
expend amounts received in direct support of the Institute’s activities, by making fellowship
grants to scientists (usually American scientists) for study and research at the Institute, or by
maintaining and underwriting international meetings in the field of pharmacological research.
